Hello class, how are you today? Are you ready for study?
I want to write a word. Can you guess it? (Teacher write the word “bullying” on the board and ask the students).
What does it mean? (Teacher writes all the responses on the board).
Have you seen someone getting bullied? What was your feeling? Were you scared or angry?
What do you think about bullying? Write your feelings about bullying and then we can discuss it further.

Each one of us has opinions and we express them in this chapter. We will be talking about opinions. We will move from fiction world into nonfiction world, the world that is not based on imagination but reality.
The article you will be reading is an opinion-based article. An opinion column is a column in magazines or newspaper where the writer expresses how he feels or interprets ideas, happenings, issues around him.

Let’s read an article on bullying and see what the author has to tell us.
While reading the article, ask questions about things you are not sure
about.
We will discuss them after you finish reading the article.
Have you finished reading? Do you have questions regarding the
article? OK, tell me, What did you understand from the article? Take
a moment to read the discussion questions. Now form groups of 5 each
and discuss the questions.
Have you ever thought how a person feels who gets bullied everyday?
Write down your thoughts by placing your self in that person’s life.

Which color do you think looks good on me? Red or blue?
Different people have different opinions.
Opinions are based on the way we look at different things around us.
Our opinions are influenced by our environment, the people we hang out with, the kind of literature we read.
Open your book and let’s look at the way opinions are formed and shared.
When reading opinions we have to be sure to distinguish between facts and opinions so that we make correct judgment about things or issues at hand.
Should we go out or eat at home?
I think we should eat at home, I heard there is some kind of virus going around.
I don’t agree with you, it’s just a rumor.

Come on everyone, it’s time to get active. I want you to form pairs.
These are transactional conversations. Complete the conversation with
your partner.
Are you done? Have finished the conversations? Now choose one
conversation and reenact it.
Who wants to be the first one to reenact the conversation?

opinions.
Open your book and go to writing connection.
In your book under the writing connection segment, there are several
issues.
Take few minutes to think about the topics.
Choose one topic and write your opinion about the topic.
Use the opinion giving pattern and format given in building block.
Your response should be approximately 100 words long.

Project time! You can choose any one of the projects:
What do you think is the most heated or most talked issue in the media these days?
Do you know what people think about it? Choose an issue, create questions to interview people. You can use the question given in your book.Interview people and write your opinion and give your opinion on the issue. Compile all the opinions then create a poster, and display it in class.
With a partner, write an opinion conversation on any of the current issues in media and reenact it in class.
Find an article and study this article. Separate facts from ideas/ opinions.
Debate with your classmates on the issue of smoking in public places

We have different ways of looking at things.
Our opinions depend on our perspective, our way of understanding different issues.
Sometimes parents and children can differ on certain issues.
Choose the most prevalent issue in the media and ask your parents’ opinion on this issue. If there is opinion which is different from yours, write it in English and share it in class.
